Essential Functions:
Includes teaching classes in majors, non-majors, and human biology; teaching extended day, evening classes and on-line/hybrid classes as assigned; serving on college and district committees; course development, program review, and developing and assessing student learning outcomes; and otherwise fulfilling all of the duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.

Minimum Qualifications:
Include a masters degree in any biological science; OR a bachelors degree in any biological science AND a masters degree in biochemistry, biophysics, or marine science; OR a valid California Community College Credential; OR the equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency); AND demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Desirable Qualifications:
Include background in general biology, human biology, anatomy, and physiology; type of experience teaching biology (majors, non-majors); experience in diagnosing and remediating knowledge and skills deficiencies; experience with educational technology (computer, interactive video, smart podia, etc.); certificate to teach in an on-line or hybrid environment; working with students of various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds; demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students and staff; related work and professional experience and potential for contribution to institutional vitality and growth; and knowledge of the community college and its mission and goals.

Conditions of Employment:
177 duty days.

Salary and Benefits:
Salary is $54,029 $81,342 based on education and experience. A doctoral stipend of $2,021 is available. In addition, the District offers an attractive fringe benefit package including medical, dental, and vision coverage for the employee and dependents, and life insurance. Employees are also members of the California State Teachers Retirement System (CalSTRS).

Selection Procedure:
Applications will be screened to determine which applicants meet the minimum qualifications as stated in the job announcement. From the applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and who have submitted all the required documents, a selection committee will determine the candidates who are best qualified based on the minimum and desirable qualifications. They will be invited to interview. The selection committee will rate responses to the interview questions, teaching demonstration and writing prompt (if applicable). Based on this rating, a small number of applicants will be selected as the recommended candidates. These candidates will be forwarded to the Vice President of Instruction & Student Services and College President for final interviews. A hiring recommendation will be made by the College President and forwarded to the Board of Trustees of State Center Community College District for final approval.
