Job Description
The Respiratory Therapy Lab Instructor/Clinical Liaison is a part time position, located at an assigned Lab/Clinical location in Winnemucca, Elko, or Reno. The Respiratory Therapy Lab Instructor/Clinical Liaison is responsible for instructing lab experiences according to lab curriculum provided by the course instructor and/or evaluating students in the clinical setting and relaying feedback from clinical staff and students to GBC faculty. The successful candidate will work closely with the Program Director, Director of Clinical Education, and Course Instructors to provide consistency of experiences for students throughout the program service area. This position may require travel by car to required locations (with or without accommodations as per the Americans with Disabilities Act), work on weekends, and at times have flexible hours to oversee student placed in clinical rotations. The individual serving in this position is expected to be an active and engaged member of the program and a good model for students.
Qualifications:
- Active credentialling through the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC)
- Current State Licensure through the Nevada Board of Medical Examiners.
- Document a minimum of two years clinical experience in the professional discipline.
- Document a minimum of two years experience supervising, instructing, and evaluating respiratory therapy students.
- Be able to work full shifts that may vary from 6 to 10 hours overseeing students in the clinical setting.
- Ability to understand core curriculum of the AAS respiratory therapy program.
- Must be self-motivated with excellent organizational skills. Demonstrate a positive, encouraging approach to dealing with students and coworkers.
- Ability to communicate effectively with the Respiratory Program Director, Director of Clinical Education, administrators, instructors, students, and community agency personnel both orally and in writing.
- Understanding of and commitment to the mission of the College and the Health Science and Human Services Department and its programs.
Responsibilities:
- Instruct students as directed in the lab and/or clinical portions of the respiratory therapy program.
- Assist Program Director and Director of Clinical Education in the implementation and execution of respiratory curriculum as appropriate to program courses, objectives, protocol and standards.
- Evaluate student performance in the lab and/or clinical environments and achievement of outcomes.
- Support the program director and clinical education director to assure consistent educational opportunities to students.
- Evaluate clinical facilities and experiences of assigned students.
- Maintain current knowledge of the discipline and education methodologies through continuing professional development.
- Maintain current knowledge of program policies, procedures and student progress.
- Evaluate program policies and procedures to suggest changes to support current practices in respiratory technology.
- Must be willing to travel throughout assigned clinical area (with or without accommodations as per the Americans with Disabilities Act), work on weekends, and at times have flexible hours when necessary.
- Act as a proactive liaison between clinical site instructors and students as well as between clinical sites and GBC faculty.
- Please be aware that clinical facilities may require current vaccinations, current BLS certification, insurance and other site-specific requirements that must be met and maintained to teach in the clinical setting. This is managed through Complio. Maintaining Complio compliance is required for this position.
Department Responsibilities:
- Participate in departmental and relevant college meetings.
- Maintain professional performance that reflects clinical competence, scholarship and evidence-based teaching and clinical practices.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Salary:
Instructor will be paid by credit at a rate of $850 per credit. The maximum number of credits per semester is nine (9), which is equivalent to 162 hours.
This is a non-benefits eligible position.
