Job Description
Great Basin College (GBC) is seeking a Nursing Instructor for a full-time, 9-month, non-tenure track position. This position reports to the Dean, Health Sciences at GBC and is a part of a team of nursing instructors/professors at the Elko Center as well as a larger nursing team within rural Nevada. The start date is as soon as possible, ideally November 1, 2024.
This position is responsible for primarily teaching in the Associate of Applied Science (AAS) nursing program. Teaching will include classroom and online instruction, and clinical oversight.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Nursing (such as an MSN) from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program is required by time of employment. Degree must be from an accredited institution.
- Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a registered nurse in the state of Nevada (licensure will be required to fulfill the duties of the position).
- Minimum of 4 years nursing experience as a Registered Nurse.
- A recent background in medical/surgical, acute care, and/or community health nursing is strongly preferred.
- Ability and willingness to overseeing students in clinical settings.
- Ability and willingness to organize and implement multiple projects at once.
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
- Possess basic computer skills, including using Microsoft Office Word.
- Must be self-motivated.
- Demonstrate a positive, encouraging approach to dealing with students and coworkers.
- Demonstrate collegiality and flexibility in working as a team member.
- Previous instructional experience is desirable.
- Experience in distance education methods (online and interactive video) is desirable.
Responsibilities:
- Teach courses in lower and upper division nursing for the AAS nursing and Rn-BSN nursing programs as directed, including lecture, online and clinical courses.
- Assist with teaching CNA courses as needed, including lecture, laboratory, and clinical.
- Prepare and follow approved courses of study.
- Manage and supervise individuals and groups in classrooms, online, through interactive video, simulations, and in labs and clinical areas.
- Evaluate student performance and achievement of outcomes.
- Participate in department activities including student advisement, curriculum development, program evaluation and annual report and accreditation activities.
- Participate in additional faculty responsibilities, including college committees as assigned or elected.
- Other duties as assigned.
Schedule
The schedule is varied and may require working evenings and weekends.
Travel
The position will require occasional travel to Ely as needed to assist with simulation. The position may require additional driving to other GBC campuses, with or without reasonable accommodation as per the Americans with Disabilities Act, with possible overnight stays to coordinate students and programs throughout the service area. There must be a commitment to the GBC mission to serve rural Nevada.
This position offers an opportunity to attend state-wide and national meetings regarding the latest nursing trends and may require overnight travel. Travel will be reimbursed.
Compensation Grade
Academic Faculty - 3
B Contract - 9 month (end of August to mid May) working contract paid over 12 months.
The budgeted salary range for this position is $65,000 - $90,000
Salary is based on relatable education and experience, internal equity and budgets.

Grants-in-aid for Faculty Employees
Great Basin College is proud to provide a reduced-rate tuition benefit to faculty and qualified dependents. Faculty can take up to six credits per semester at a reduced rate. Dependents of faculty have unlimited credits, but in order to be eligible children must be unmarried and under the age of 24 and must receive at least 50% of their financial support from the employee and/or employee's spouse or domestic partner.

Newly hired faculty must assure that their official transcripts are sent by the degree granting institution(s) to Great Basin College Human Resources Office within 30 days from the effective date of employment. Regionally accredited institutions must have awarded academic degrees.
If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. Any expense related to the evaluation will be the responsibility of the candidate.
